System Test Engineer
Education level: HBO/WO
Contract time: Full-time
People who think testing software is boring haven’t met you yet. You’re able to explain that it takes creativity to write a good test plan. That you need to understand a system through and through to be able to make a good risk assessment. You know like none other that proper testing of software is crucial. As a System Test Engineer, you are the team’s quality conscience. Do you recognize yourself in this description? Then it’s high time we meet.
Your job as a System Test Engineer
The software that we develop at Technolution is part of complex systems that are often essential to the client’s business. As a System Test Engineer, you are involved in the project from the start. You make sure the client receives a working product that does what it is supposed to do. You take responsibility for the testing process within the project. On the basis of the client’s specifications and the end goal of a working system, you design the test strategy: you assess risks, devise testing scripts, design the testing environment and use tooling to simulate realistic situations. You test new functions and retest existing functionality for each partial delivery or sprint. You provide feedback on the test results to the software developers and write test reports.
You may be interested to know we rarely outsource anything. As System Test Engineer, you’re part of the development team, you take part in the joint Google Meet if the team works from home or you’re in the room if we’re in the office. This means you always know what is going on in the project. Most tests will be performed in a laboratory environment, from home or from our office in Gouda. Sometimes they need to be run in the actual environment and in those cases you go to the client to do this.
As a Systems Test Engineer at Technolution, you do a lot more than testing. Together with our test coordinators, you work in an expert group on developing and improving our testing methods. Our objectives are maximum automation and repeatability of the testing process. We often work with new technologies which you have to examine with a view to risks and testability. There will be a lot of programmable logic, embedded software and electronics. You work in a multidisciplinary environment with a lot of growth opportunities; your own preferences are the guiding principle in your growth.
