Your job as Programmable Logic Engineer
At Technolution, programmable logic is a separate discipline alongside software and electronics. We are the market leader in this field in the Netherlands. Our specialisms are cybersecurity, high-speed data, motion control, and real-time data processing. One example is the high-speed processing of scan data from a multi-beam electron microscope. Or the operation of a machine that examines the quality of microprocessors at nano level. In addition to project-based work, we also develop our own FPGA-based products, for example in the fields of encryption, Voice over IP, and preventive maintenance.
As a Programmable Logic Engineer, you have a leading role in your team. You all work together with electronics and software teams to create complex solutions for demanding clients. A typical day begins with a stand-up to discuss the tasks for the day with your team. Then you consult with the leads in the other disciplines and calibrate crucial design decisions with them, often standing around the whiteboard together. You spend a lot of your time coding and reviewing VHDL, simulating with CocoTB/Riviera-PRO, and testing and integrating with electronics and software. Moreover, you’re involved in the development of the end-to-end tests in our own regression test framework.
You use software methods to build our FPGA solutions repeatably and reliably. As lead, you’re responsible for the building, integration, and testing of your team’s modules, and you are able to demonstrate that these do what they’re supposed to do. You report to the project leader/project manager about your team’s activities, take independent initiative to improve processes and methods, and flag up any problems. Your responsibilities grow as your experience grows, and Technolution gives you all the space you need to continue to develop your knowledge.
