MobiMaestro Next for more accessible implementation, use, and management
Mobiliteitsplatform
MobiMaestro is the Netherlands’ most popular traffic management platform. To keep pace with market developments and innovations, and to make implementation, use, and management more accessible, Technolution is currently developing this platform into MobiMaestro Next, a modern web interface offered as a service.
Erik van Dijk is Business Unit Director Mobiliteit at Technolution who is responsible for MobiMaestro. He explains why Technolution has developed MobiMaestro into MobiMaestro Next: “At Technolution, our job is to sell solutions for challenges our clients face. As the requirements and needs with regard to traffic management are constantly in flux, we’re constantly looking with our clients at the components we need to offer fitting solutions.”
MobiMaestro
Van Dijk says that MobiMaestro has undergone a transition: “MobiMaestro began as a traffic management platform focused on cars. But over the last few years we’ve seen it expand to include other modes of transport, such as bikes, pedestrians, and public transport. And now we’re making the leap from traffic management to dynamic management of public space.”
Browser-userinterface
MobiMaestro has also developed in another respect, says Van Dijk: “It has up to now always been a desktop application, which required local installation. Now we’ve taken decided to turn it fully into a browser user interface, which means you can operate MobiMaestro from any browser with an internet connection. New users who have the right authorization can start straight away. And this without compromising on the high security requirements and all current legislation.” Van Dijk mentions another advantage: “No need anymore for updates, because MobiMaestro Next always uses the most recent version of every module.”
MobiMaestro as a service
Technolution is offering MobiMaestro Next as a service. “This meets our clients’ need to have a platform that does it all for them. In addition, implementation, use, and management are now accessible, even for small municipalities and road managers. And there are practical advantages. It has a client portal that gives direct access to the help desk. Users can see all available licenses and service agreements in their own environment. The services include notifications, help requests, configuration actions, scenario design, purchase of additional functionalities and traffic engineering expertise, or temporary support in case of events or road works.” MobiMaestro Next offers users wide range of options. They can organize and configure the application themselves, but the traffic management tasks can also be performed either fully or partially by Technolution Move. Examples are connections between TLCs and DRIPs, parking guidance displays, traffic sensors, lane control signals, and cameras. If required, Technolution can even temporarily carry out the actual implementation of the traffic management tasks.
MobiMaestro Next has its own community portal. “This is there to facilitate connections between users.” The community portal offers users news and tips for best practices. They can also exchange ideas and experiences. It also gives access to MobiMaestro’s beta environment, where new functions and modules can be tested. And it has a roadmap that affords a glimpse of the future of MobiMaestro, as well as the opportunity to actively help shape this.
Flying start
Large users such as the province of Zuid-Holland and the cities of Rotterdam and The Hague have already decided to switch to MobiMaestro Next. Van Dijk: “The development of MobiMaestro Next, and of course the services that go with it, are off to a flying start.” This is important, because Technolution has in the meantime begun working on yet a new innovation: modules for intelligent access and dynamic use of space.
